NOTE: Not all tray options are available with all HP LaserJet 4 family printers. This document does not apply to the HP LaserJet 4L/4ML printers.
  1. Verify the media loaded into the desired tray on the printer is the correct size.

For example, if the message "MP Load Legal" is encountered, then verify that legal size paper is physically present in the MP (Multi-Purpose) tray. If the message “LC LOAD MONARCH” is encountered, then verify that Monarch paper is physically present in the LC (Lower Cassette) tray.

  2. Verify the media size that the desired tray is configured for.

If using the universal PC (paper cassette) or LC (lower cassette), make sure the green paper size knob matches the desired media size. If selecting the MP tray for a document that requires legal size paper (for example), verify that the front panel shows that the MP tray is configured for legal.
