HP LaserJet 4000 Printer Family - Printing with Custom Sized Paper in Windows 95

PCL 6 driver

Follow the instructions below on how to print custom-sized paper with the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL 6 driver in Windows 95.

  1. Select Start, Settings, and Printers.

  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL 6 printer and select Properties.

  3. Select the "Paper" tab and select "Custom."

  4. Enter a name for the custom paper size, such as "Index cards," and specify the width and height of the custom paper.

    NOTE: You can specify up to five different custom paper sizes using the dropdown box and selecting an unused paper size, such as "Untitled Paper 2."
  5. Select OK, and OK again, to close the driver and save the settings.

  6. Select the custom media (such as "Index cards") as the paper size within the Windows application.

    NOTE: Some applications override driver settings. If these adjustments do not work in your environment, try a different application or contact your application vendor for support.

PCL 5e driver

Follow the instructions below on how to print custom-sized paper with the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL 5e driver in Windows 95.

  1. On the front panel of the HP LaserJet 4000, push the right side of the menu key until the display reads "PRINTING MENU."

  2. Push the right side of the item key until the display reads "CONFIGURE CUSTOM PAPER."

  3. Press the value key until the display reads "CONFIGURE CUSTOM PAPER=YES" and press the select key.

  4. Press the right side of the item key to configure the unit of measure, if necessary.

  5. Press the right side of the item key to display "X DIMENSION="

  6. Press the value key to adjust the width of the custom media and press Select.

    NOTE: Pressing and holding the value key will adjust the width in intervals of 1 inch, or 10 millimeters, depending on the unit of measure defined on the control panel.
  7. Press the right side of the item key to display "Y DIMENSION=".

  8. Press the value key to adjust the length of the custom medium and press Select.

  9. Press the "GO" key to return the printer’s display to "READY."

  10. On the Windows 95 workstation, select Start, Settings, and Printers.

  11. Right-click the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL 5e driver and select Properties.

  12. Select the "Paper" tab and "Set Custom Paper Size".

  13. Define the custom paper size by entering the width and length of the media.

  14. Select OK and OK again to close the driver.

  15. Select "Custom" within Page Setup or Printer Setup, depending upon the application.

PostScript (R) driver

Follow the instructions below on how to print custom-sized paper with the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PostScript driver in Windows 95.

  1. Select Start, Settings, and Printers.

  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 4000 Series PS printer and select Properties.

  3. Select the "Paper" tab, select one of the three custom paper icons, and select the "Custom" button.

  4. Enter a name for the custom paper size, such as "Index cards," and specify the width and height of the custom paper.

  5. Select OK and OK again to close the driver and save the settings.

  6. Select the custom media (such as "Index cards") as the paper size within the Windows application.
