HP LaserJet 1200 Series Product - Installing the PostScript (R) Printer Driver on a USB Port in Windows

Perform the following to install the PostScript printer driver for the HP LaserJet 1200 series product on a USB port in Windows.

Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me):

  1. Close all programs and TSRs before installing the PostScript driver.

    1. To quit all open programs, simultaneously hold down the CTRL, ALT, and DELETE keys. This will bring up the CloseProgram window.

    2. Highlight each item individually and click End Task (located at the bottom of the window).

    3. Repeat this procedure until all programs (except for Explorer and Systray - leave these programs open) are closed.

  2. Insert the HP LaserJet 1200 series CD-ROM #1 that contains the product software into the CD-ROM drive. If the CD-ROM is not available, download the drivers for the HP LaserJet 1200 series product at www.hp.com .

    • If the HP LaserJet 1200 Series Autorun Browser screen appears (it may take a few seconds before it appears), press the ESC key or select Exit to exit the software install options.

    • If the Plug and Play New Hardware Detected Wizard dialog appears, click Cancel .

  3. Select Start , Settings , then Printers from the Windows desktop.

  4. Double-click the Add Printer icon.

  5. Click Next on the Add Printer Wizard screen.

  6. Select Local , when asked, "How is this printer connected to your computer?" then click Next .

  7. Click Have Disk .

  8. Browse to the folder X:\English\Drivers\Win98\ps (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive) and double-click the INF file.

  9. On the Printers screen, select the HP LaserJet 1200 or HP LaserJet 1220 (the HP LaserJet 1200 appears in the description box by default). If unsure which model was purchased, verify the model number of the product packaging. Click Next to continue.

  10. Select the Dot4_00x (x is the highest number of Dot4 ports available) port from the Available Ports list and click Next .

  11. When the Default Driver Name screen appears, click Next .

  12. Click Finish to complete the installation. The HP LaserJet 1200 series PostScript driver should now appear in the Printers folder on the computer.

Windows 2000 or Windows XP (Classic View)

  1. Close all applications, programs and TSRs.

    1. Simultaneously press CTRL, ALT, and DELETE on the keyboard. This will bring up the Windows 2000 security window.

    2. Click Task Manager .

    3. Click the Applications tab.

    4. Highlight one item at a time by clicking on it. To close each item, click End Task button (located at the bottom of the window).

    5. Repeat this procedure until all items are closed.

  2. Insert CD1 from the HP LaserJet 1200 Series CD-ROM software included with the product into the CD-ROM drive. If the CD-ROM is not available, download the drivers for the HP LaserJet 1200 series product at www.hp.com .

  3. If the HP LaserJet 1200 install software autoruns, click Exit to close the autorun software install.

  4. If the Plug and Play New Hardware Detected Wizard dialog appears, click Cancel .

  5. Select Start , Settings , then Printers from the Windows desktop.

  6. Double-click the Add Printer icon.

  7. Click Next on the Add Printer Wizard screen.

  8. Select Local , when asked, "How is this printer connected to your computer?" then click Next .

  9. In the Available Ports option, select Dot4_00x (x should be the highest number of DOT4 port available). Click Next .

  10. Click Have Disk .

  11. Click Browse to go to the folder "X:\English\Drivers\Win2000\ps " (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive) and double-click the INF file, HP1200PS.INF .

  12. Find the CD1 HP LaserJet 1200 series CD-ROM that came with the product and place it in the CD-ROM drive. Then, click OK .

  13. On the Printers screen, select the HP LaserJet 1200 or HP LaserJet 1220 (the HP LaserJet 1200 appears in the description box by default). If unsure which model was purchased, verify the model number of the product packaging. Click Next to continue.

  14. Verify the printer model name and whether or not this should be the default driver. Click Next .

  15. Set the preference for sharing the printer. Click Next .

  16. Select Yes to print a test page, then click Next .

  17. Click Finish to complete the installation. The HP LaserJet 1200 series PostScript driver should appear in the Printers folder on the computer.
