HP LaserJet 9000, 9040mfp, and 9050mfp Series Printers - PJL Commands for Configuring the HP 3000 Sheet Stacker/Stapler and Stacker

ISSUE: Configuring the 3000 sheet Stacker/Stapler (C8085A) and Stacker (C8084A) with PJL commands. PJL commands can be sent to the printer to enable specific functionality to a particular paper-handling device. These commands can be sent to the printer on a "job by job" command basis.
SOLUTION: The PJL commands listed below will set the functionality of the HP 3000 sheet Stacker/Stapler and/or the HP 3000 sheet Stacker on a "job by job" basis.

Also contained in this document are PCL commands for tray selection.

MS-DOS Command Prompt and MS-DOS Editor windows

To open a MS-DOS Command Prompt window:

  • Go to Start , Programs , and Accessories

  • Select Command Prompt . A command prompt window will open. (See Figure 1 below)

  • Type in EDIT and press ENTER.

  • This will open the editor window. (See Figure 2 below)

To create the escape sequence (Ec) in the MS-DOS Editor:

  • Press and hold down the CTRL key and press the "p" key.

  • Release both keys.

  • Press the ESC key. The editor will insert an arrow symbol pointing to the left.

  • Type the rest of the command after the symbol. (See sample in Figure 2)

NOTE: Be sure to save the PJL command created in editor and give it a file name before copying it to the printer.

Sending the file to the printer

  • Save the PJL command and name it before sending to the printer.

  • Send the file to the printer by typing "Copy [filename] [printer port]" at the MS-DOS (R) prompt. Example: C:\Copy_filename.txt LPT1;

Paper Source Commands

The PCL 5e escape sequence for paper source is Esc&l#H where "l" is a lowercase "L", not the numeral "1" and "#" is the tray being selected. See the table below for values of #.

Example:

Esc&l1H is the command for Tray 2.
