HP LaserJet 2300 Printer Series - Troubleshooting Network Printing Problems

NOTE: HP recommends using the printer CD-ROM to install and set up the printer on a network.
Use the following suggestions to troubleshoot network printing problems.
  • Print a configuration page (see the steps below). If an HP Jetdirect enhanced input/output (EIO) print server is installed, printing a configuration page also prints a second page that shows the network settings and status. If the Jetdirect page does not print, do the following:

For an internal Jetdirect print server:
    1. Power Off the printer.

    2. Remove and reseat the Jetdirect card.

    3. Connect the (Local Area Network) LAN cable to the Jetdirect card.

    4. Power the printer back On.

    5. Repeat the steps for printing a configuration page.

For an external Jetdirect print server:
    1. Power Off the printer.

    2. Disconnect power to the external Jetdirect print server.

    3. Disconnect and reconnect the cables to the external Jetdirect print server.

    4. Connect the LAN cable to the Jetdirect card.

    5. Power the printer back on.

    6. Then power the external Jetdirect print server back on.

    7. Repeat the steps for printing a configuration page.

  • See the HP Jetdirect Print Server Administrator's Guide on the printer CD-ROM for help and for more information about the Jetdirect configuration page. To reach the guide, insert the CD and select printer documentation , and then select HP Jetdirect Guide .

  • Try printing the job from another computer.

  • To verify that a printer works with a computer, use a parallel or universal serial bus (USB) cable to connect it directly to a computer. It will be necessary to reinstall the printing software. Print a document from a program that has printed correctly in the past. If this works, a problem with the network might exist.

  • Contact the network administrator for assistance.

Printing a configuration page

Use the configuration page to view current printer settings, to help troubleshoot printer problems, or to verify installation of optional accessories, such as memory (dual inline memory modules, or DIMMs), trays, and printer languages.

The content of the configuration page varies, depending on the options currently installed in the printer.

NOTE: If an HP Jetdirect print server is installed, an HP Jetdirect configuration page prints as well. The Internet Protocol (IP) address of the HP Jetdirect print server appears on this page.
Use the following steps to print a configuration page at the control panel.
  1. Press (Select button) to open the menus.

  2. Use (Up button) or (Down button) to scroll to INFORMATION , and then press (Select button).

  3. Use (Up button) or (Down button) to scroll to PRINT CONFIGURATION , and then press
