HP LaserJet 1010, 1012, and 1015 Printers - Printer Light Patterns

Introduction

The following table is intended to help you understand the light patterns that appear on the HP LaserJet 1010 printer series control panel.

Status light patterns

The following table provides details about the printer lights that appear on the control panel.

Status lights
Condition of the printer
Action/Description
Ready
The printer is ready to print.
No action is necessary.
Processing
The printer is receiving or processing data.
Wait for the job to print.
Processing...(job name)
Ready LED is blinking.
This message is displayed while the printer is processing a current job, but has not begun to pick pages.
Processing...(job name) From Tray XX
Ready LED is blinking.
This message comes up for any job, once the printer starts to pick paper.
Manual Feed or Continuable Error
The printer is attempting to Manual feed, media is not loaded in the paper tray, media loaded is the wrong size or type.
Verify that the correct media is loaded.
Press and release the GO button to continue printing.
Out of memory
The printer is out of memory.
The page you are printing might be too complex for the printers memory capacity. Try lowering the resolution. See Understanding print quality settings for more information.
Door open, media out, no print cartridge, or media jam
The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention or help.
Check the following:
  • The print cartridge door is completely closed.
  • Media is loaded.
  • The print cartridge is correctly installed in the printer.
  • There is no media jam.
Printer initialization
A printer initialization is taking place.
No action is necessary.
Fatal error
All lights are on.
  • Unplug the printer for 30 minutes, and then plug it back in.
  • If the printer still has an error, contact HP Support.
All lights are off.
  • Verify that the printer is turned on.
  • Make sure that there is power.
  • Unplug both ends of the power cord, and plug them back in.
Job Cancel
All the LEDs cycle.
Canceling...(job name)
The Job Cancel button was pressed and the job is aborted.
Power ON
All the LEDs cycle.
Checking Paper Path and Checking Printer
This only occurs at power up.
Cleaning mode/Engine test
A cleaning page or engine test page is printing.
All the LEDs cycle.
Cleaning Page prints
Wait until the cleaning page is finished printing and the printer is in Ready mode. This could take up to two minutes.
Wait until the engine test page is finished printing and the printer is in Ready mode.
Clearing Event Log
All the LEDs cycle.
This will happen automatically during an NVRAM Init and a cold reset. No message will be displayed.
No Action is Necessary.
Power On
Initializing
This occurs when the product is powered on and coming out of EDOS.
No Action is Necessary.

Continuable error. The Go LED is Solid, and the Ready and Attention lights are blinking.
Press GO to continue.
If auto-continue is not set to ON then the error is continuable and the GO button must be pressed to continue.

CLOSE TOP COVER
The Ready LED is blinking.
Close the top cover.
INSTALL TONER CARTRIDGE
The Ready LED is blinking.
Install an HP print cartridge.

LOAD TRAY XX [TYPE][SIZE]
Press GO to use another tray.
If a job is sent, the printer holds it and waits for the paper to be loaded; would be misleading to just have the blinking attention on; "paper out in selected tray" is documented as the attention with ability to continue light pattern in the User Guide.

MANUALLY FEED [TYPE][SIZE]
This is a Continuable error, the GO LED and Attention LED are blinking.
Press GO to continue if paper is installed or there is no paper and another tray should be used.

13.JJ.NT JAM IN TRAY 1
13.JJ.NT JAM IN TRAY X
The Attention LED is blinking.
Check paper loading then open and close top cover.
When there is a jam in tray 1, verify the paper is loaded correctly, open and close the top cover. Pressing GO is ignored.
When there is a jam in tray X, verify the paper is loaded correctly, open and close the top cover. Pressing GO is ignored.

20 INSUFFICIENT MEMORY
Continuable error. The GO and Ready light are on solid, and the Attention light is blinking.
Press GO to continue.
Clears on job boundary, on job cancel, on online, and auto-continuable.

22 PARALLEL I/O BUFFER OVER.
The Attention and Ready light are blinking, the Go light is on solid.
Continuable error, press GO to continue.
22 SERIAL I/O BUFFER OVER.
The Attention and Ready light are blinking, the Go light is on solid.
22 USB I/O BUFFER OVERFLOW
The Attention and Ready light are blinking, the Go light is on solid.

The Attention and Ready light are blinking, the Go light is on solid.

52.X PRINTER ERROR
Fatal Error, Ready light is solid. Pressing the GO and Job Cancel buttons to display the secondary error - Attention, Ready, and GO LEDs all solid.
Issue is similar to the 51.x error. Press GO to continue.
Scanner Rotation Error : 52.2 Error is auto-continuable. If auto-continue is not enabled, press GO to continue.
Power cycle the printer to clear remaining 52.x errors.

55.X PRINTER ERROR
Fatal Error, Attention light is solid. Pressing the GO and Job Cancel buttons display the secondary error - Attention, Ready, and GO LEDs all solid.
The formatter is not communicating with the engine. Contact HP Customer Care for assistance.

68.X PERM. STORAGE ERROR
The Attention and the Ready LEDs are blinking and the Go LED is solid.

50.X FUSER ERROR
The initial light pattern displays the Ready and GO LEDs flashing and the Attention LED as solid. Pressing GO changes the light pattern to the Go, Ready, and Attention LEDs all three solid.
Fatal error indicating an issue with the fusing assembly. Try power cycling the printer. If that does not correct the issue, contact HP Customer Care for assistance.

53.XY.ZZ PRINTER ERROR
The Attention, Ready, and GO LEDs are all blinking. This indicates an accessory error.
Remove any accessories and power cycle the printer. Reinstall the accessories one at a time to identify the problem accessory. Contact HP Customer Care for assistance, as needed.

57.X PRINTER ERROR
Initially the Attention LED is solid. Pressing the GO button displays the Attention LED blinking, and the Ready and GO LED as solid.
Power cycle the printer to continue. If the issue persists, contact HP Customer Care, as needed.

62 NO SYSTEM
Initially, the Attention and Ready LEDs are solid, pressing the GO button displays Attention and Ready LEDs as blinking, and the GO LED as solid.
Power cycle the printer to continue. Contact HP Customer Care, as needed, for further assistance.

64 PRINTER ERROR
Initially, the GO LED is solid. Pressing the GO button changes the GO LED to blinking and the Attention and Ready LEDs to solid.
Power cycle the printer to continue. If the condition persists, contact HP Customer Care, as needed, for further assistance.

79.XXXX PRINTER ERROR
Initially, the GO and Attention LEDs are solid. Pressing the GO button changes the GO and Attention LEDs to blinking and the Ready LED to solid.
Power cycle the printer to continue. If the condition persists, contact HP Customer Care, as needed, to resolve the issue.

NVRAM Init
Initialize permanent storage
During a power up initialization the GO button (approximately 20 seconds) is pressed until the Go, Ready, and Attention LEDs cycle and then come on solid. The NVRAM init goes through the following process:
  • The GO button is pressed for approximately 20 seconds. All three LEDs cycle during this time.
  • The GO button is released when all three lights are solid.
  • The Attention and Ready LEDs are solid and the GO Light blinks.
  • The Attention light is solid, the Ready light blinks, and the GO light is continuable.
  • The Attention light blinks, the Ready and Go lights are continuable.
  • All three LEDs are continuable and the printer returns to the Ready state.
  • NVRAM initialization is complete.

Printing...Configuration
Press the GO button for 5 seconds, the GO and Ready LEDs will go on. Once the GO button is released, the Ready LED is blinking. A supplies page will print out if applicable.
This page may also be printed from the EWS.
A single Job Cancel button press during printing will only cancel the config page and not the supplies status page as they are treated as two separate print jobs.

Ready LED is blinking.
Pressing the GO button causes the Demo page, the Event Log, and the Font List to print.
These pages may also be printed from the EWS.

Resetting Factory Settings
During power up, press and hold the GO button (for 5 to 15 seconds) until the Attention LED comes on solid. The printer will cycle through the LEDs once the GO button is released and while the Cold Reset is being performed. The printer will return to the Ready state when Cold Reset is complete.

Performs a Continuous self-test
  • Turn off the power, Press and Hold (approximately 15 to 20 seconds) the GO button while simultaneously turning on the power until the GO, Ready, and Attention LEDs all come on solid.
  • A blinking Ready LED indicates that the self-test is executing.
  • Press the GO button to stop the continuous self-test.
