HP LaserJet 3015, 3020, 3030, and 3380 AiO Series Products - Installing the Printer Driver Only Using the Add Printer Wizard

Supported operating system requirements

The following operating systems have print-only support by the HP LaserJet all-in-one product software.
  • Microsoft Windows 95 (parallel connection only)
  • Microsoft Windows 98 First Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit (driver available from the HP Web site only)
  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Server (driver available from the HP Web site only)
  • Windows NT 4.0 (parallel connection only)
The print drivers for these operating systems are available at the HP Web site for each product.
NOTE: Instructions for print-only driver installation for Windows 98 Second Edition, ME, 2000, and XP are provided below; however, these operating systems support full software functionality.

Windows 95

Perform the following to install the print driver only:
  1. Simultaneously press and release the Ctrl , Alt , and Delete keys to open the Close Program window.

  2. End Task on every program except Explorer by highlighting each task and clicking the End Task button one at a time.

  3. Select Start , Settings , Printers from the Windows desktop.

  4. Double-click the Add Printer icon in the Printers folder to start the Add Printer Wizard .

  5. Select Next , Local Printer , and then Next .

  6. Select Have Disk .

  7. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Navigate to the X:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS\WIN9X_ME folder (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive on the computer).

  8. Double-click the PCL 5 , PCL 6 , or PS folder, depending on which driver needs to be installed, and then double-click the .INF file in the folder.

  9. Complete the installation. Print a test page when prompted to verify the printer driver is correctly installed.

Windows NT 4.0

Perform the following to install the print driver only:
  1. Select Start , Settings , Printers from the Windows desktop.

  2. Double-click Add Printer and then click Next .

  3. Click Local Printer when asked if the printer is a Local or networked printer .

  4. Select Have Disk .

  5. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Navigate to the X:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS\WINNT40 folder (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive on the computer).

  6. Double-click the PCL 5 , PCL 6 , or PS folder, depending on which driver needs to be installed, and then double-click the .INF file in the folder.

  7. Complete the installation. Print a test page when prompted to verify the printer driver is correctly installed.

Windows 98 First Edition, Second Edition, and Millennium Edition

Perform the following to install the print driver only:
  1. Select Start , Settings , Printers from the Windows desktop.

  2. Double-click Add Printer and then click Next .

  3. Click Local Printer when asked if the printer is a Local or networked printer .

  4. Select Have Disk .

  5. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Navigate to the X:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS\WIN9X_ME folder (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive on the computer).

  6. Double-click the PCL 5 , PCL 6 , or PS folder, depending on which driver needs to be installed, and then double-click the .INF file in the folder.

  7. Complete the installation. Print a test page when prompted to verify the printer driver is correctly installed.

Windows 2000 or XP

Perform the following to install the print driver only. This procedure can also be used for a client/server network driver installation:
  1. Select Start, Settings (Windows 2000), Printers (Windows 2000) or Control Panel (Win XP), Printers and other hardware then Printers and Faxes (Windows XP) from the Windows desktop.

  2. Double-click Add Printer and then click Next.

  3. Click Local Printer when asked if the printer is a Local or networked printer and make sure to uncheck automatically detect my plug and play device, then Click Next.

    1. Standard port is LPT1 (recommended), click on the downward arrow next to it. Choose the Dot4_001 Port if available or the USB_001 Virtual USB port . If the those ports are not available for the HP printer you must connect the printer to the computer and cancel the add new hardware wizard if it is displayed. Win XP will automatically install the Dot 4 Port for you. Once you choose the correct port click Next.

    2. When choosing for a networked printer installation click create a new port . Choose the Standard TCP/IP port and then Click Next. Follow the install wizard for networking. The only piece of information you will need is the IP address for the printer, now Click Finish.

  4. There are Two options here:

    Win XP has many of the drivers already installed for some of the older printers so you may find the needed printer driver through the list provided by WinXP.

    OPTION 1 : (this is if you do not have the cd or downloaded the driver for the printer).

    1. Choose the desiredprinter from the list of printers. Note that this is for printing functionality only. Highlight the correct driver then click Next . Follow the remaining windows and choose yes to print a test page. Then click Finish.

      OPTION 2 :

    2. If the printer driver is not available, click Have Disk from the Wizard screen.

      The Install from disk screen dialog box is now displayed, click on the browse option. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. You may have to cancel out of the install screen if it is displayed. Navigate to the X:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS\WIN2000_XP folder (where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive on the computer).

      Double-click the PCL 5, PCL 6, or PS folder, depending on which driver needs to be installed, and then double-click the .INF file in the folder.

      Now click the ok button from the install from disk screen to complete the installation. Print a test page when prompted to verify the printer driver is correctly installed.
