Windows software installation overview

The print drivers for the HP Color LaserJet 2550 series printer are shipped on one CD-ROM. Use the Add Printer Wizard to install the print drivers from the CD onto the computer hard disk and to update the Microsoft Windows files. Three options are presented by the HP Color LaserJet 2550 printing system at installation:
  • Minimum (print only) : allows installation of the PCL6 print driver only.
  • Typical Installation : allows installation of the basic components in the default locations.
  • Custom Installation : allows specification of components at installation.

On all of the supported platforms, each install option presents a series of query dialog boxes that guide the installation process. Requests to provide information about the computer environment also appear. The installer guides the installation, whether configuring a directly-connected or networked product.

The installer has the ability to detect hardware and network connections and to help guide the installation. For instance, if the installer detects an HP Color LaserJet 2550Ln printer, it can automatically configure the software connection to that printer.
