HP LaserJet 1010, 1012, and 1015 Printers - Driver Tabs Appear in Another Language

ISSUE: Driver tabs appear in a foreign language.
SOLUTION: This can happen when the printer's USB cable has been attached to the PC before the software requests it, this results in a hardware first install versus the recommended software first install. These instructions can assist with uninstalling the software.
  1. With the installation CD in the drive, click Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 1010 Series Add/Remove . The software should uninstall. Do not reboot when requested to do so.

  2. Run the software scrubber. This can be found on the CD at x:\hewlettpackard\scrubber\scrubber.exe. The runtime is less than two seconds.
  3. Delete the folder HP LaserJet 1010 Series under C:\programfiles\hewlettpackard.
  4. Clear any unneeded temp files.
  5. Open the c:\windows\inf folder. Delete the hp1010u.inf and hp1010u.pnf and the hp1010h.inf and hp1010h.pnf files. You must also open individual oemx.inf and oemx.pnf (x is a number) files in this folder. They will open in Notepad, if they are related to the HP LaserJet 1010 printer, delete them. If they are not related to the HP LaserJet 1010 printer, do not delete them.
  6. Empty the recycle bin.
  7. In the Printer & Faxes window (XP and Windows 2000 only), right-click any open space within the window, choose Server Properties . On the Drivers tab, delete any listings for LaserJet 1010.

  8. Remove the USB cable from the computer.
  9. Reboot with the usb cable not connected. Reinstall the software and connect the USB cable when the installer prompts "looking for device". This will reinstall the software and the driver tabs should be in the correct language.
CAUSE: This can happen when the printer's USB cable has been attached to the PC before the software requests it, this results in a hardware first install versus the recommended software first install.
