Problem

Either before or during a print job, both print cartridge status lights and the Resume light start to blink together. Or, the Resume and Power lights start to blink together.

Step 1: Clear jammed paper

WARNING: Clear paper jams from the back of the printer only! Clearing jams from the front can damage the printer.

If either the auto two-sided printing accessory or the auto two-sided print accessory with small paper tray is attached to the printer, skip to the sections at the end of this document to see how to remove paper jams. If you do not have either of these accessories, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Resume button. If the light does not stop flashing, go to the next step.

  2. Push the two latch handles on the rear access door toward each other, and then remove the door.

  3. Remove all the paper you see. If you are printing labels, see if any are missing from the label sheet. If any labels are missing, locate them inside of the printer and remove them very carefully.

  4. Replace the rear access door.

  5. Press the Resume button.

Step 2: Check for jammed paper and foreign objects in the front of the printer

  1. Unplug the power cord and open the print cartridge access door.

  2. Pull out any jammed paper or other foreign material you were not able to remove from the rear. Pull the paper slowly and carefully to avoid tearing it or damaging the print mechanism.

  3. Make sure the print cartridge latches are down and securely fastened.

  4. The print cartridge carriage should be on the right side of the unit. If it is not, gently move it with your fingers to the center. If it will not move, click the link at the top of this page to contact HP.

  5. Remove any paper or other foreign material under or around the print cartridge carriage. Look in both the right and left sides, inside the printer.

  6. Close the print cartridge access door, plug the power cord back in, and turn the product on.

  7. If the error still occurs, unplug the power cord and open the print cartridge access door.

  8. Gently move the print cartridges all the way to the right side of the printer.

  9. Unlatch and remove the cartridges.

NOTE: Try to inspect and reinstall the cartridges as quickly as possible, so that they do not dry out. Avoid touching the copper-colored parts of the cartridge.

  10. If either cartridge is damaged, replace it. Reinstall the undamaged cartridges (the printer can print with only one cartridge installed).

  11. Close the print cartridge access door, plug the power cord back in, and turn the product on.
