HP Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the hard drive for the M2000 and ZE1000 series notebook PCs.

Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.

Step 1 - Remove the battery

  1. Slide the battery release latch to the release position.
  2. Slide and hold the battery locking latch to the unlocked position.
  3. Slide the battery out of the battery bay.

Step 2 - Remove the hard drive

  1. Loosen the two Phillips-head screws that secure the hard drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the inside edge of the hard drive cover and remove it.
  3. Loosen the spring-loaded Phillips-head screw that secures the hard drive.
  4. Hold the Mylar tab and pull the hard drive toward the outside edge of the base enclosure to disconnect the hard drive from the system board connector.
  5. Lift the hard drive out of the bay and remove.
  6. Place the hard drive in a static dissipative bag.

Step 3 - Replace the hard drive

  1. Remove the hard drive from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Place the hard drive into the hard drive bay.
  3. Push the hard drive toward the inside of the base enclosure until the connector is seated.
  4. Tighten the spring-loaded Phillips-head screw that secures the hard drive.
  5. Insert the hard drive cover into the enclosure.
  6. Tighten the two Phillips-head screws.

Step 4 - Replace the battery

  1. Slide the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the locking latch clicks.
