HP Compaq Notebook PCs - Steps for Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

This document provides instructions for the removal and replacement of the hard drive for the dv4000, dv4100, dv4200, v4000, v4100, v4200, nx7200 and nx7220 series notebook PCs.

Use the video as a guide while following the written instructions below.

Step 1 - Remove the battery

  1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  2. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out of the battery compartment.

Step 2 - Remove the hard disk drive

  1. Loosen the two captive 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the hard disk drive cover; swing the cover up and remove it.
  3. Grasp the cloth tab and pull the hard disk drive to disconnect the hard disk drive from the system board connector.
  4. Lift the hard disk drive out of the bay.
  5. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Step 3 - Replace the hard disk drive

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissapative bag.
  2. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
  3. Align the pins on the hard disk drive with the socket connector.
  4. Push the hard disk drive until the connector is seated.
  5. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the bottom case and swing it shut.
  6. Tighten the two captive 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screws.

Step 4 - Replace the battery

  1. Toe the battery into the bottom case.
  2. Press the battery into the battery compartment until you hear a click.
