HP Designjet 100/100plus, 110/110plus, 120 and 130 Series - Alternate Methods for Upgrading Firmware Using the System Maintenance Tool

There are two ways to upgrade the firmware using the System Maintenance Utility:

A – If you have an internet connection and you upgrade online (recommended).

B – When using a firmware file that you already have on your computer (no internet connection required).

The procedure starts here for both cases A and B.

NOTE: Throughout the procedure DO NOT power off the printer. The printer’s front panel will indicate it is busy until the firmware upgrade has finished.
  1. Select the printing preferences option in the printer dialog window in the application.

  2. The following screen will be displayed, select the Services tab.

  3. Select Status of my Printer box.

  4. Select Advanced functions and then select Update firmware.

  5. The next steps will depend on whether you are going to upgrade the firmware live and online via the internet, or upgrade the firmware using a file that you already have on the computer:
    • A If you have an internet connection and you want to upgrade the firmware online, proceed to the step 1 below.

    • B If you are upgrading the printer’s firmware using a firmware file that you already have on your computer, proceed to page 5 of this newsletter.

A. Use the following procedure if you have an internet connection and you are upgrading the firmware online from HP

Access the following url http://h41186.www4.hp.com/country/us/en/downloads.html?pageseq=265210, and select the appropriate printer before continuing with the steps below.
  1. Select click here (the first one).

  2. Select Ok.

  3. If the pop-up window below is displayed, select OK.

  4. Right-click the Download firmware button and choose Save target as and save the file to the desktop.

  5. Once the firmware file is successfully saved to your desktop click on the Back button in your browser window until you get back to the screen below, then click the second click here link at the bottom of the screen.

  6. Select the Browse button and go to the firmware file you have just downloaded to your desktop.

  7. Select the update firmware button.

  8. The printer’s front panel will indicate it is busy until the firmware upgrade has finished.

B. Use the following procedure if you are upgrading the firmware using an upgrade firmware file sourced from your local computer

Use this procedure once you have saved the firmware file to your desktop or other easily accessible location.
  1. Select the second ‘click here’ link as shown below.

  2. Select the Browse button and go to the upgrade firmware file you have (i.e. on your desktop).

  3. Select the update firmware button.

  4. The printer’s front panel will indicate it is busy until the firmware upgrade has finished.
