NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2007-03-22

Last Updated: 2007-04-16

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this advisory is to announce the release of a firmware package that includes new System firmware 02.03, new BMC firmware 05.14, and new Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO2) Management Processor Firmware revision F.01.58.

This advisory also announces the release of separate firmware packages that include FPGA/PSoC firmware (PDH FW 50.04, DHPC FW 01.23, UCIO FW 03.0a, PRS FW 00.08, and HFC FW 00.03) as well as Video Graphics Adapter (VGA) Video BIOS (vBIOS) firmware yi21029a.

The following enhancements appear in System firmware 02.03:

  • Added support for the PCI-Express I/O backplane.
  • Added support for all AB036B/AB037B/AD348A PCI-X 8-port SAS Controller cards revision B (replacement part number 435709-001).
  • Added support for second source of 4 GB DIMMs (AB566A).

The following enhancements appear in BMC firmware 05.14:

  • This firmware version and all later versions added support for “signed” firmware.

The following enhancements appear in iLO2 MP firmware F.01.58:

  • The ARP Ping Command arp –s is now supported.
  • Added MP PE command as an alias to the ‘PC’ Remote Power Control command.

The following fixes appear in System firmware 02.03:

  • Corrected an issue that may result in an EFI_ASSERT_ERROR occurring during an OpenVMS network boot.
  • In previous versions Directed LAN boot may fail with a PXE-E18: Timeout. Server did not respond. message if the DBprofile fully specifies the client IP address information on systems with Intel GigE EFI driver 3.0.13.
  • Corrected an issue that may result in a trap during a lanboot select following a failed lanboot select directed boot attempt.
  • In previous versions an incorrect bootptab entry may cause the system to trap.
  • In previous versions the EFI Shell may fail to define the path variable when 15 or more fs devices are visible. The EFI path variable will now be truncated, when necessary, with a set : path variable truncated message.
  • In previous versions the legacy EFI Boot Manager Menu may not show all available devices at the Add a Boot Option and Boot from a File menus when EFI Fast Initialization is enabled.
  • When the inactive system firmware ROM shows as Invalid in EFI, a successful FWCONFIG COPY of the firmware in the active ROM to the inactive ROM will no longer show the inactive ROM as Invalid .
  • Corrected an issue that may prevent the ability to reflash firmware images on the alternate ROM.
  • Corrected an issue that required a reboot after secondary system ID values were copied over to primary system ID values in order for sysset to show correct primary system ID values.
  • Corrected an issue where the secconfig and info sec commands at EFI may not always display the correct TPM State and TPM Next Boot State.
  • In previous versions the EFI console selection menu may freeze if four or more console devices are present.

The following fixes appear in BMC firmware 05.14:

  • Corrected an issue where an rx6600 system with fully loaded DIMMs may fail to boot.
  • Corrected an issue where the bus that handles transactions between the Operating System and the BMC may appear to hang. The Event Monitoring Service (EMS) in HP-UX uses this bus to get system event log information from the BMC, upon this issue EMS may report the following message in the syslog: vmunix: ipmi_wd_heartbeat(): timer not refreshed.

The following fixes appear in iLO2 MP firmware F.01.58:

  • Corrected an issue on systems running Windows where there may be a longer than usual 30-40 second delay when initially mapping devices using vMedia.
  • The MP will now be automatically reset after using the Default Configuration command (DC) to restore all MP configurations to their default values.
  • Corrected an issue where a change to a group in the Group Accounts menu of the MP Web GUI when two groups are open for editing may cause the changes to be made to the incorrect group.
  • In previous versions a runtime error may be reported when changing a field in the iLO Web GUI Directory Settings menu.
  • Corrected an issue where Web GUI navigation through LDAP Group Accounts that are not assigned a Group Distinguished Name or Group Access Rights may cause an unexpected MP reset.

The following fixes appear in VGA vBIOS firmware yi21029a:

  • In previous versions the vKVM session may stop updating when in the middle of a Windows® install from the Microsoft® RTM media when a monitor is connected to the VGA port.

The following enhancements appear in PDH FPGA firmware 50.04:

  • Adds native Hot Plug support on rx3600 and rx6600 servers with the PCI-Express IO backplane.

Hewlett-Packard continually strives to provide customers with the highest quality of products. To meet this goal, several minor performance and reliability improvements have been identified that Hewlett-Packard has included in this firmware release.

SCOPE

Servers affected by this firmware release:

  • HP Integrity rx3600 Server
  • HP Integrity rx6600 Server

RESOLUTION

Update systems to System firmware revision 02.03, BMC firmware revision 05.14, and iLO2 MP firmware revision F.01.58. Update FPGA/PSoC firmware and update VGA vBIOS firmware to yi21029a. This firmware update is Customer-Installable and available in various packages for offline and online installation. For installation instructions, please refer to the release notes that are specific to the firmware package being used.

Upgrade Recommendation

HP recommends systems used in Mission Critical environments update to this revision of firmware during the next system maintenance period in order to improve system reliability.

WARNING: When updating firmware on rx3600/rx6600 systems all three sets of firmware MUST be updated on the system. This includes the System/BMC/ILO2 MP firmware, the FPGA/PSoC firmware, and the VGA vBIOS firmware.

It is mandatory that the System, BMC, and iLO2 MP firmware be updated to the following minimum revisions PRIOR to updating the FPGA/PSoC firmware or possible damage may occur to the system:

  • System firmware 02.03
  • BMC firmware 05.14
  • iLO2 MP firmware F.01.58
WARNING: The FPGA/PSoC firmware update requires a system power cycle. Ensure the system is powered down prior to attempting the FPGA/PSoC firmware update.

Determining Current Revision

System firmware and FPGA/PSoC firmware:

  1. Establish a telnet session with the Management Processor.
  2. Logon to the Management Processor using the Admin password.
  3. Type CM to enter the Command Menu.
  4. Type SYSREV to display system revision information.

The following should be displayed if the current firmware is installed.

  5. If the System firmware revision in the current boot ROM is less than 02.03, if the BMC firmware revision is less than 05.14, or if the iLO2 MP firmware revision is less than F.01.58 then firmware should be updated.
  6. If the PDH FW revision is less than 50.04, if the DHPC FW revision is less than 01.23, if the UCIO FW revision is less than 03.0a, if the PRS FW revision is less than 00.08, or if the HFC FW revision is less than 00.03 then FPGA/PSoC firmware should be updated.

VGA vBIOS firmware:

  1. To determine current VGA vBIOS firmware revisions, obtain the efiflash_1p15.efi utility from within the VGA vBIOS firmware package located at

    http://www.hp.com/go/bizsupport.

  2. At the EFI Shell prompt use the following command to display the current VGA vBIOS firmware version: efiflash_1p15.efi –b
  3. The following will be displayed if the current VGA vBIOS firmware is installed:

  4. If the Configuration file name string is not yi21029a or greater, the VGA vBIOS firmware should be updated.
