HP LaserJet P1005, P1006, and P1009 Printers - Setting Up a New Printer

Introduction

This document explains the basics of setting up the product hardware. The document does not explain how to operate the product.

Setting up a new printer

Follow these steps to set up a new printer.

Step one: Unpack the printer

Remove all the orange shipping tape and packaging material from the product.

Step two: Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Step three: Install the print cartridges

  1. Open the print cartridge door.

  2. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging.

    CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, hold the print cartridge at each end.
  3. Pull the tab to remove the tape from the print cartridge. Put the tab in the print cartridge box to return for recycling.

  4. Gently rock the print cartridge from front to back to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

  5. Insert the print cartridge in the device and close the print cartridge door.

    CAUTION: If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth. Wash the clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into the fabric.

Step four: Connect the power cord

Connect one end of the power cord to the back of the product and the other end to an alternating current (AC) power outlet.

Step five: Turn on power

Turn on the product by pressing the power button on the front panel of the product.

Step six: Load paper in the main input tray

The main input tray holds up to 150 pages of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) paper, or fewer pages of heavier media (a 15 mm (0.6 inches) stack height or less). The paper stack height should not exceed 25 mm (.98 inches).

CAUTION: Be aware of the paper capacities before loading.

To load paper in the main input tray, follow these steps.

  1. Extend the paper guides into the input tray out towards the edges of the paper trays.

  2. Adjust the paper guides to match the length and width of the paper that you use.

  3. Load paper with the top forward and the print side up.
    NOTE: To prevent jams and skewing, always adjust the side and front paper guides.

Step seven: Install the software

Insert the HP All-in-One CD into the computer’s CD drive, and then follow the onscreen instructions to install the software.
