Cause

Ink supplies come with the product and carry special ink formulations intended for product initialization. During initialization, inks in the ink supplies mix with inks in the product to create a normal ink formulation, then internally marks the bit on the ink supply to be a trade supply. After initialization, ink supplies can be used in any compatible product. However, if ink supplies that have not been through initialization are installed in a product that has already been initialized, the product cannot print.
