HP ProLiant ML350 G3 Server series - Removing and Replacing a PCI Expansion Board

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the expansion board for the HP ProLiant ML350 G3 Server series.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the expansion board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Expansion board removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Power down and remove power from the server.

  3. Remove the access panel .

  4. Remove the bezel (or bezel door ).

  5. Disconnect any cables connected to the expansion board.

  6. If an expansion board retainer is in place, loosen the thumbscrew of the expansion board retainer, and then lift the retainer up and out.

  7. Press the top of the expansion slot latch and pull it back.

  8. You might need to remove the neighboring slot blanks (or boards) to facilitate the removal of the expansion board.

  9. Remove the expansion board.

  10. If the expansion board is not being replaced immediately, replace the expansion board retainer.

Expansion board replacement

  1. Remove the expansion board retainer.

  2. Press the top of the blue latch clip and then push the latch clip back.

  3. If installing, pull the blank up and out.

  4. Set the expansion board in place and press down to seat it.

  5. Pull the top of the expansion slot latch, and close the latch.

  6. Replace the expansion board retainer, and then fasten its thumbscrew.

  7. Reconnect any cables connected to the expansion board.

  8. Replace the access panel .

  9. Close the bezel (or bezel door ).

  10. Replace power and power up the server.
