HP Color LaserJet CP1215 and CP1217 Printers - Status Alert Messages

Status alert messages display on the computer when the product has certain issues. Use the information in the following table to resolve these issues.

The status alert software is not available from client PCs when sharing the HP product. Only the PC with a direct connection to the HP product receives status alerts.

Black Scanner Error
An internal error has occurred.
Press the Power switch to turn off the product, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power. Wait for the product to initialize before proceeding.
If you are using a surge protector, remove it. Plug the product directly into the wall outlet. Press the Power switch to turn on the product.
If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
Cartridge Shipping Locks Not Removed
The sealing tape is still on one or more print cartridges.
Check the print cartridges for sealing tape.
Pull the orange tab on the left side of the print cartridge straight up to completely remove the sealing tape. Discard the sealing tape.

Calibrating
The product is performing the internal calibration process to ensure the best possible print quality.
Wait for the process to complete.
Cartridge Memory Error on <color>
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
The print cartridge has an e-label error or a missing e-label. The print cartridge might not have full contact with the HP product.
Remove the affected print cartridge from the product, reinstall it, making sure that it is fully seated in the slot.
Press the Power switch to turn the HP product off and then on again.

Cartridge Out Override In Use
A print cartridge has reached the end of its useful life, but you have selected the option to override the message and continue printing.
Press the Resume button to clear the message.
Replace the print cartridge as soon as possible. If you need detailed steps, go to replacing print cartridges (c01548609) (in English).
For all future print jobs, print quality could be diminished until you replace the print cartridge.
Cool Down Mode
After prolonged, continuous operation, or after printing on narrow paper, the product must pause to cool.
Printing continues when the product has cooled.
Cyan Scanner Error
The product has an internal error.
Press the Power switch to turn off the product, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power. Wait for the product to initialize before proceeding.
If you are using a surge protector, remove it. Plug the product directly into the wall outlet. Press the Power switch to turn on the product.
If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
DC Controller Error
The product has an internal error.
Press the Power switch to turn off the product, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power. Wait for the product to initialize before proceeding.
If you are using a surge protector, remove it. Plug the product directly into the wall outlet. Press the Power switch to turn on the product.
If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
E-Label Missing
The print cartridge has an e-label error or a missing e-label. The print cartridge might not have full contact with the HP product.
Remove the affected print cartridge from the product, reinstall it, making sure that it is fully seated in the slot.
Press the Power switch to turn the HP product off and then on again.

Engine Communication Error
The product has an internal communication error.

Front Access Door Open
The front access door is open.
Close the front access door.
Fuser Error
There is an error with the fuser.
Press the Power switch to turn off the product, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power. Wait for the product to initialize before proceeding.
If the error continues, turn off the product, wait at least 25 minutes, and then turn on the product.
If you are using a surge protector, remove it. Plug the product directly into the wall outlet. Press the Power switch to turn on the product.
If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
Incorrect <color> Cartridge
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
A print cartridge is installed in the incorrect slot.
Make sure that each print cartridge is in the correct slot. From front to back, the print cartridges are installed in the following order: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow.
Install <color> Cartridge
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
The cartridge is either not installed or not correctly installed in the product.
Install the print cartridge into the product.
Make sure that the print cartridge is securely seated in its slot.
Jam in <location>
<location> indicates the location of the jam.
The product has detected a paper jam.
Clear the jam from the area indicated in the message. The job should continue to print. If it does not, try reprinting the job.

If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
Load Paper <Type>
<type> indicates the type of paper that needs to be loaded.
Tray 1 is empty.
Load print media into tray 1.
Magenta Scanner Error
An internal error has occurred.
Press the Power switch to turn off the product, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power. Wait for the product to initialize before proceeding.
If you are using a surge protector, remove it. Plug the product directly into the wall outlet. Press the Power switch to turn on the product.
If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
Manual feed
The product is set for manual feed mode.
Load the correct media into the tray, and then press the Resume button to clear the message.
Non-HP <color> Cartridge
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
A new, non-HP print cartridge has been installed.
Install a genuine HP print cartridge, or press the Resume button to finish the print job.

Service or repairs that are required as a result of using non-HP supplies are not covered under HP warranty.
Not Connected
The product software cannot communicate with the product.
Make sure that the product is turned on.
Make sure that the USB cable is connected securely to the product and to the computer.
Order <color> Cartridge
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
The identified print cartridge is nearing the end of its useful life.
Order the identified print cartridge.
Printing continues until Replace <Color> Cartridge appears.
Page Too Complex
The product cannot process the page.
Press the Resume button to continue printing the job.
The output might be affected by the complexity of the document.
Printer Mispick
The print engine has failed to feed a sheet of paper into the product.
Reload the paper in the tray 1, and then press the Resume button to continue the print job.
If the error persists, contact HP to determine if the product needs to be serviced.
Printing
The product is printing a document.
Wait for printing to finish.
Rear Access Door Open
The rear access door is open.
Close the rear access door.
Remove Shipping Lock from XX Cartridge
XX indicates the color of the affected print cartridge.
The sealing tape is still on one or more print cartridges.
Check the print cartridges for sealing tape.
Pull the orange tab on the left side of the print cartridge straight up to completely remove the sealing tape. Discard the sealing tape.

Replace <color> Cartridge
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
The print cartridge is empty.
Replace the print cartridge.

A print cartridge has reached the threshold for end of life, but you have selected the option to override the message and continue printing.
Replace the print cartridge.
The quality of the printout might be diminished when a print cartridge is low on ink.
Replace Supplies
More than one print cartridge is empty.
Follow these steps to print a supplies status page to determine which cartridges are empty.
  1. Open Toolbox .

    • Windows XP: Click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click your product, and then click HP Color LaserJet CP1210 Series Toolbox .

    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click your product, and then click HP Color LaserJet CP1210 Series Toolbox .

  2. Click the Status folder, and then click Print Info Pages .

  3. Print the page.

    • Windows XP: Click Print next to Supplies Status .

    • Windows Vista: Click Supplies Status , and then click the printer icon ( ) at the top of the page.

Replace any empty print cartridges.

Replace Supplies Override In Use

Tray 1 Jam
The product has detected a jam in tray 1.

Unauthorized <color> Cartridge Installed
<color> indicates the color of the print cartridge.
A new, non-HP print cartridge has been installed. This message appears until an HP supply is installed or you press the Resume button.
Install a genuine HP print cartridge or press the Resume button to finish the print job.

Yellow Scanner Error
An internal error has occurred.
