HP Color LaserJet CP6015 Printer and CM6030/CM6040 MFPs - 13.01.00 paper jam and 41.3 unexpected size errors when printing with custom or 12x18 media

ISSUE:

A 41.3 unexpected size error will occur under the following conditions:

  • When printing with custom media sizes or on 12x18 media,

  • When Banner printing (included in the custom media sizes),

  • When printing 12x18 media from trays 3 through 5. All PDL’s are affected.

Customers load Tray 1 with a sheet of letter plain paper and then send a multiple page job to the printer. The printer will pull the sheet from Tray 1 and then request more paper.

When the customer loads the paper in R orientation, they receive a 13.01.00 paper jam in Tray 1 .

If the customer presses Check on the control panel, the paper is flushed from the system and a 41.3 unexpected size in tray 1 error message is displayed along with Load Tray 1 plain letter .

SOLUTION:

Load the paper in the correct orientation (long edge first) to avoid this issue.

A fix was rolled out in the firmware version released Spring 2009. Use a firmware version greater than 04.044.0 to correct the issue.

WORKAROUND:

If printing 12x18 size media from tray 3 through 5, try to print from tray 1.

Custom media sizes do not currently have a workaround.
