HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor PC - Removing and Replacing the PCI card

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the PCI card for the HP Compaq dc7700 Small Form Factor PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Torx #15 (T-15) screwdriver.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

PCI card removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
    NOTE: The HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7700 SFF supports low profile PCI cards only. The riser card cage is a configurable option that allows the use of full height PCI cards. This procedure shows the replacement of a PCI card which is inside the riser card cage only.
  2. Remove the Cover. Click here for instructions on how to remove the cover .

  3. Lift the handle on the PCI card cage and pull the cage straight up and out of the chassis. Lift the cage slowly in case there are cables attached to the PCI card.

  4. Disconnect any cables from the PCI card.

  5. Remove the Torx-15 screw that secures the PCI card to the card cage.

  6. Pull the PCI card out of the socket.

    NOTE: If you are not replacing the PCI card with another card, cover the open slot in the PCI card cage with a metal slot cover to facilitate proper airflow and cooling of the system.

PCI card replacement

  1. If you are installing a new PCI card, remove the slot cover from the appropriate slot on the PCI card cage.

  2. Align the connectors on the PCI card with the slot on the riser card.

  3. Press down on the PCI card until it is fully seated in the slot.

  4. Replace the screw that secures the PCI card to the card cage.

  5. Connect any cables to the PCI card.

  6. Place the card cage in the chassis so that the two tabs on the side fit into the slots on the chassis side wall and the tab in the back fits over the chassis back wall.

  7. Press down on the PCI card cage until it is fully seated in the slot on the system board.
