HP 2133 Mini-Note PC - Removing and Replacing Keyboard

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the keyboard for the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

  • Small, Phillips-head (P0 and P1) screwdrivers

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the keyboard that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Keyboard removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to the product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the Battery .

  3. Remove the three 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws inside the battery bay that secure the keyboard to the base enclosure.

  4. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel fully.

  5. Use your fingers to lift the top edge of the keyboard and then slide the keyboard toward the rear of the notebook.

  6. Using minimal force, flip the locking bar up to unlock the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.

    CAUTION: Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
  7. Remove the keyboard ribbon cable from the ZIF connector and remove the keyboard.

Keyboard replacement

  1. Place the keyboard right side up on the top cover.

  2. Insert the keyboard ribbon cable into the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.

    CAUTION: Use care to prevent damaging the keyboard ribbon cable.
  3. Push the locking bar down to lock the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.

  4. Toe the tabs on the bottom edge of the keyboard into the top cover and press the keyboard flat.

  5. Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.

  6. Replace the three 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws inside the battery bay that secure the keyboard to the base enclosure.
