HP Officejet Pro 8000 (A809a) and 8000 Wireless (A809n) Printers - Poor Print Quality Immediately after Setup, an Extended Idle Period, or after Printhead Replacement
This document is for the HP Officejet Pro 8000 (A809a) and 8000 Wireless (A809n) printers.
After the initial printer setup, print quality is poor. This issue can also occur if the printer is used infrequently or not at all for a prolonged period, or after replacement printheads are installed. Black text prints poorly, and printouts might have horizontal streaks or lines.
Solution one: Use genuine HP cartridges
HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink cartridges or refilled HP ink cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP ink cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve print quality issues.

Genuine HP ink cartridges can also be purchased from other retailers.

Make sure paper is loaded in the input tray and then follow these steps to align the printheads through the HP software.

Follow these steps in the order presented to print a Print Quality Diagnostics report, determine the problem printhead, and then replace the problem printhead.

Examine the color blocks labeled Test Pattern 2.
The color block with the white, horizontal streaks indicates the problem printhead. Use the guidelines in the following guidelines to determine which printhead to replace:

After you determine the problem printhead(s), follow these steps to install one or both of the replacement printheads.

Solution five: Service the printer
NOTE: Keep a print sample that shows the problem. If the ink cartridges, printhead, or printer is replaced under warranty, the support agent will request the print sample. If the printer is returned to HP, the print sample must be returned with the printer. Place the sample in the output tray when you package your printer for shipping.
