Memory removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

Click here to view the precautions .

CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
NOTE: This computer uses PC2-6400 (DDR2 800-MHz) DIMMs. There are four DIMM sockets on the system board, with two sockets per channel. The sockets are labeled XMM1, XMM2, XMM3, and XMM4. Sockets XMM1 and XMM2 operate in memory channel A. Sockets XMM3 and XMM4 operate in memory channel B.

HP recommends dual-channel symmetric configurations for maximum performance. For best performance, add the same amount of total memory to each channel and do not mix speeds. For dual-channel symmetric performance, the total amount of memory in each channel must be equal. If speeds are mixed, speed will default to the slowest DIMM.

If you installing one memory module only, put it in slot DIMM1 (the black slot closest to the processor).

  2. Remove the access panel. Click here for instructions to remove the Access Panel .

  3. Push down and out on the memory socket latches to release the memory module.

  4. Pull the memory module up and out of the socket.

Memory replacement

  1. Ensure that the memory socket latches are pushed down and away from the memory socket.

  2. Match the notch on the memory module with the key on the memory socket.

  3. Push the module down firmly into the socket until the latches snap into place and the module is fully seated.
