HP Photosmart Plus All-in-One Printers (B209a, B209b, and B209c) - Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)
This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
Unpack the All-in-One
Connect the power cord and adapter
Turn on power
Select the language/region
Install the printhead assembly
Install the cartridges
Load plain paper
Load photo paper
Align the printer
Setting up a new All-in-One
Follow these steps to set up the product hardware.
Step one: Unpack the All-in-One
Remove all tape from the front and back of the product and from the control panel display.

Open the product and remove all the packaging materials
from inside the product.

Step two: Connect the power cord and adapter
Connect the power cord to the back of the product.

Connect the power cord to the power supply.

Connect the power cord to the electrical outlet.

Step three: Turn on power
Press the Power button () to turn the product on.

Step four: Select the language/region
After turning the product on, use the following steps to set the default language and country/region. If you are satisfied with the default language and country/region settings, you can skip this step.
On the control panel Home Screen, touch the right arrow () to view more options.
Touch Setup ().
Touch the down arrow () until Preferences displays. Touch Preferences.
Touch Set Language.
Touch the down arrow () to scroll through the languages. When the correct language displays, touch that language.
Touch Yes to confirm the selection. The Preferences menu redisplays.
Touch Set Country/Region.
Touch the down arrow () to scroll through the options. When the correct country/region displays, touch the selection.
Touch Yes to confirm your selection. The Preferences menu redisplays.
Touch Home () to return to the Home Screen.
Step five: Install the printhead assembly
Open the cartridge access door.

Lift the latch handle on the carriage until it stops.

Remove the printhead from its packaging.

CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts. Do not let the contacts touch any surface. Do not scratch the contacts while inserting the ink cartridges.
Hold the printhead upright with the colored shape icons facing up.
Lower the printhead into the product with the red square aligned on the left side and the white rectangle aligned on the right side.

Slowly lower the carriage latch.

Step six: Install the cartridges
Remove the plastic wrap on the cartridge by pulling the orange tab.

Twist the orange cap counter-clockwise to snap it off the cartridge.

With the cartridge contacts facing the printhead, slide each cartridge into its slot as indicated by the colored shape icons on the cartridge and on the printhead.
Press down on each cartridge until it clicks into place.

Repeat this procedure for each cartridge.

Close the cartridge access door.

On the control panel, press OK. The initialization process begins, which takes about six minutes. It is normal for the product to make noises during this process.

Step seven: Load plain paper
Raise the output tray and leave it in the open position.
Slide the paper-width
guide to its outermost position.

Insert the paper stack into the input tray with the short edge forward and print

Adjust the paper-width guide so it rests against the stack of paper.

Close the output
tray, and then extend the paper catch.

Step eight: Load photo paper
Lift the photo tray
Slide the paper-width guide to its outermost position.

Load photo paper
print side down, short edge first, into the photo
tray. Slide the stack of photo paper forward until it stops.

NOTE: If the photo paper has perforated tabs, load the photo paper so that the
tabs are facing away from the product.
Adjust the paper-width guide so it rests against the stack of photo paper.

NOTE: Do not overload the photo tray. Make sure the stack of photo paper fits within the
photo tray and is not higher than the top of the paper-width guide.

Step nine: Align the printer
After loading paper, touch OK on the control panel.
The alignment page automatically prints.

Open the lid and place the printed alignment page face down. Align the top of the page with the lower right corner of the scanner glass.

Close the lid.
Touch OK. After the product scans the alignment page, the alignment is complete.
