HP Compaq 2510p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Optical drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Optical drive for the HP Compaq 2510p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Torx 8 (T8) screwdrivers.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Optical drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Optical drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery .

  3. Remove the T8-6 mm screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom center of the base enclosure.

  4. Remove the T8-3 mm screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom edge of the base enclosure.

  5. Insert a paper clip or thin metal rod into the manual release hole on the front bezel of the optical drive and press firmly.

  6. Grasp the side rails of the drive tray to pull the optical drive out and remove.

  7. Push the drive tray back into the optical drive.

Optical drive replacement

  1. Insert the optical drive into the base enclosure until the connector is seated.

  2. Replace the T8-3 mm screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom edge of the base enclosure.

  3. Replace the T8-6 mm screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom center of the base enclosure.
