HP Officejet 6500 (E709a) and 6500 Wireless (E709n) All-in-One Printers - The Auto Answer Button Turns Off Automatically

Issue

The Auto Answer button on the product control panel turns off automatically after the product goes into sleep mode.

Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

Solution one: Plug the product directly into an electrical outlet

Plug the product directly into an electrical outlet to make sure that the power source functions correctly.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.

  2. Unplug the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors.

  3. Plug the power cord directly into an electrical outlet.

  4. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

  5. Press the Auto Answer button to turn it on

  6. Wait for the product to go into sleep mode.

    If the Auto Answer button remains on, do not plug the product back into the power strip or surge suppressor.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Perform a power reset

Follow these steps to reset the product.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

  2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.

  5. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.

  8. Press the Auto Answer button to turn it on, and then wait for the product to go into sleep mode.
