When attempting to perform an installation of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (x86) SP3 (SLES10 SP3) or SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (x86) SP4 (SLES10 SP4) on an AMD-based HP ProLiant G7-series server, the installation stops responding during the beginning of the installation process. When this occurs, no messages are displayed.

SCOPE

Any AMD-based HP ProLiant G7-series server receiving an installation of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (x86) SP3 or SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (x86) SP4. This is not an issue with the x86_64 version of SLES10 SP3 or SLES10 SP4.

Note: This is not ProLiant server-specific.

RESOLUTION

To ensure the installation completes, add the parameter pci=nomsi at the "boot" prompt. After the installation, the pci=nomsi parameter is not required and can be removed from the appropriate kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst.
