HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a), 8500 Premier (A909n), and 8500 Wireless (A909g) All-in-One Printers - The 'Pump Motor Stalled' Message Displays on the Product Control Panel

Issue

The ‘Pump Motor Stalled’ message displays on the product control panel. The product stops responding.

Solution one: Reset the product

Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

  2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.

  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.

  8. Try the task again.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Clean the printhead from the control panel

Click the Plus sign () next to your product number for instructions on how to clean the printhead.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a)

    1. Press the Setup button () on the product.

    2. Press the Down Arrow button () to select Tools, and then press OK.

    3. Press the Down Arrow button () to select Clean Printhead, and then press OK.

    4. Wait for the cleaning process to complete, and then try the task again.

      • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

      • If the issue persists, see the next solution.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier (A909n)

    1. On the product control panel display, touch the Setup icon (), and then touch Tools.

    2. Touch Clean Printhead.

    3. Wait for the cleaning process to complete, and then try the task again.

      • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

      • If the issue persists, see the next solution.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless (A909g)

    1. On the product control panel display, touch the Setup icon (), and then touch Tools.

    2. Touch Clean Printhead.

    3. Wait for the cleaning process to complete, and then try the task again.

      • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
