HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2060 (K110a) All-in-One Printer - Alignment Page Does Not Print

Issue

The alignment page does not print as expected. This issue usually occurs immediately after you set up the product or install a new cartridge. The lights on the control panel might also blink when the alignment fails.

IMPORTANT: You must follow these solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue.

Solution one: Make sure that the All-in-One is ready

  1. If the product is not already on, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.

  2. Check the cartridge access door. If the door is open, close it.

  • If the alignment page prints successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting, but you must complete the alignment. Follow the steps printed on the alignment page to complete the alignment.

  • If the alignment page prints successfully, but the Attention light blinks , the alignment failed. Continue to the next solution in this document.

  • If the alignment page does not print , continue to the next solution in this document.

Solution two: Make sure that the paper is loaded correctly

If paper was not loaded when the alignment page attempted to print, the alignment fails.

Follow these steps to make sure that the paper is loaded correctly.

  1. Gather 10-30 sheets of 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 in) plain white paper to load into the product.

  2. Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges.

  3. Make sure that the paper in the stack is:

    • The same size and type

    • Free from dust, wrinkles, tears, or folds

  4. Slide the paper width guide to its outermost position.

  5. Load the stack of paper into the paper tray, print side down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.

  6. Slide the paper width guide so that it rests snugly against the paper.

  7. Press the Power button ( ) to resume the alignment.

  • If the alignment page prints successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting, but you must complete the alignment. Follow the steps printed on the alignment page to complete the alignment.

  • If the alignment page prints successfully, but the Attention light blinks , the alignment failed. Continue to the next solution in this document.

  • If the alignment page does not print , continue to the next solution in this document.

Solution three: Check the product for packing materials or other debris, and then realign the All-in-One

If there is any packing material or other debris inside the product, the alignment fails and the alignment page does not print. Follow these steps to check the product for packing material or other debris, and then realign the product.

Follow these steps to check for any obstructions in the product.

  1. Remove all the paper from the tray.

  2. Open the cartridge access door.

  3. Remove any packing material or debris from inside the product.

  4. Close the cartridge access door.

  5. If the lights on the control panel continue to flash, press the Cancel button ( ) to resume the alignment.

    • If the alignment page prints successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting, but you must complete the alignment. Follow the instructions printed on the alignment page to complete the alignment.

    • If the alignment page prints successfully, but the Attention light blinks , the alignment failed. Continue to the next solution in this document.

    • If the alignment page does not print , continue to the next solution in this document.

Solution four: Remove, inspect, and reseat the cartridges

Follow these steps to remove, inspect, and reseat the cartridges to realign the product.

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the product is idle and silent before proceeding.

  2. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the product. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

  3. Press down on the top of the tri-color cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

    CAUTION: Do not touch the copper colored electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  4. If the protective tape is still attached to the cartridge, hold the cartridge by its sides, and then pull the pink pull tab on the cartridge to remove the tape.

  5. Inspect the cartridge for any damage or debris.

  6. Slide the cartridge at a slight upward angle into the empty slot, and then gently push it forward until it snaps into place.

    • The tri-color cartridge ( ) goes in the slot on the left

    • The black cartridge ( ) goes in the slot on the right

  7. Repeat these steps to remove, inspect, and reseat the black cartridge.

  8. Close the cartridge access door.

    The product automatically prints an alignment page when you reinsert the cartridges and close the cartridge access door.

    • If the alignment page prints successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting, but you must complete the alignment. Follow the instructions printed on the alignment page to complete the alignment.

    • If the alignment page prints successfully, but the Attention light blinks , the alignment failed. Continue to the next solution in this document.

    • If the alignment page does not print , continue to the next solution in this document.

Solution five: Turn the All-in-One off and on again

Follow these steps to turn the product off and then on again to reset the printing mechanism.

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product. If the product does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

  2. Wait 30 seconds.

  3. If you disconnected the power cord, reconnect it to the product.

  4. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

    NOTE: The product might go through a warm-up period. The product lights might flash and the carriage might move. Wait until the warm-up period finishes before proceeding.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Solution six: Finish the software installation and manually align the All-in-One

If you have not installed the product software, complete Step one: Finish the software installation. If you previously installed the product software, continue to Step two: Align the product through the print driver.

Step one: Finish the software installation

Follow these steps to finish the software installation.

  1. Press the Cancel button ( ) on the control panel to stop the alignment.

  2. Use one of the following methods to install the software.

    • Insert the software CD that shipped with the product. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

    • Click here to download and install the latest version of the software . Click the model number for your product, and then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the software.

      NOTE: Before clicking the link, bookmark this page in your Web browser. After you click the link and the software downloads and installs, use the bookmark to return to this page and continue to the next step.

Step two: Align the All-in-One through the print driver

Follow these steps to manually align the product through the print driver.

  1. Open the HP product software:

    • Windows XP

      Click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    • Windows Vista

      Click the Windows icon ( ), click Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    • Windows 7

      Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    NOTE: You can also open the HP product software from your computer desktop: double-click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    The product software opens.

  2. In the product software, double-click Printer Actions ( ).

  3. Double-click Maintenance Tasks ( ). The HP Toolbox opens.

  4. Click Align the Printheads , and then follow the on-screen instructions to print the alignment page.

  5. Lift the scanner lid.

  6. Place the alignment page with the printed-side down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment page.

  7. Close the scanner lid.

  8. Press the Start Copy Black button ( ) to begin the scan. The product aligns the cartridges.

  9. Wait until the Power light ( ) stops blinking, which indicates that the cartridge alignment is complete.

  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Solution seven: Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the All-in-One

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • Dry foam-rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that will not come apart or leave fibers (coffee filters work well)

    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the cartridges)

      CAUTION: Do not use platen cleaners or alcohol to clean the cartridge contacts. These can damage the cartridge or the product.
  2. If the product is not already on, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.

  3. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the product. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

  4. Press down on the top of the tri-color cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

    CAUTION: Do not touch the copper colored electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Hold the cartridge by its sides.

  6. Dip a clean foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from it.

  7. Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with the swab. Repeat this process with new swabs until no ink residue or debris appears on the swab.

  8. Set the cartridge on a clean sheet of paper with the cartridge nozzles facing up.

  9. Clean the contacts in the carriage inside the product.

  10. Either let the cartridge and the electrical contact inside the carriage sit for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.

  11. Slide the cartridge at a slight upward angle into the empty slot, and then gently push it forward until it snaps into place.

  12. Repeat these steps to clean the contacts on the black cartridge.

  13. Close the cartridge access door.

  • If the alignment page prints successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting, but you must complete the alignment. Follow the instructions printed on the alignment page to complete the alignment.

Solution eight: Reset and relocate the All-in-One

Step one: Reset and relocate the All-in-One

A power reset drains power from the product and returns the product to the same settings after restarting. To eliminate any potential power deficiencies, move the product to another place and plug the product directly into a wall outlet. Follow these steps to reset and relocate the product.

  1. If the product is not already on, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.

  2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

  3. Relocate the printer to a different power outlet, preferably an outlet in a different room.

  4. Plug the power cord directly into the wall outlet. Do not use a power strip. Do not reconnect the power cord to the back of the product, yet.

  5. Load letter or A4 sized unused, plain white paper in the input tray.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.

  7. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

Step two: Align the All-in-One through the print driver

Follow these steps to manually align the product through the print driver.

  1. Open the HP product software:

    • Windows XP

      Click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    • Windows Vista

      Click the Windows icon ( ), click Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    • Windows 7

      Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

  2. In the product software, double-click Printer Actions ( ).

  9. Wait until the Power light ( ) stops blinking, which indicates that the cartridge alignment is complete.

Solution nine: Replace the cartridges

Follow these steps to replace the cartridges.

  1. With the product on, remove the old cartridge.

  2. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging.

  3. Remove the pink pull tab from the new cartridge.

    CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored electrical contacts or the ink nozzles on the cartridge. Doing so can cause bad electrical connections, clogged ink nozzles, or poor print quality.
  4. Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the product, and then slide the cartridge into its color-coded slot until it snaps into place. Make sure that the icon on the cartridge matches the icon on the slot.

    • Insert the color cartridge in the slot on the left.

    • Insert the black cartridge in the slot on the right.

  5. Repeat these steps for the other cartridge.

    The product automatically prints an alignment page when you reinsert the cartridges and close the cartridge access door.

    • If the alignment page prints successfully , you do not need to continue troubleshooting, but you must complete the alignment. Follow the instructions printed on the alignment page to complete the alignment.

    • If the alignment page prints successfully, but the Attention light blinks , the alignment failed. Continue to the next solution in this document.
