HP Printers - HP Solution Center Software Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This document applies to the HP Solution Center software that came with select HP printers manufactured prior to 2011.

Get answers to frequently asked questions about HP's Solution Center software.

What is HP Solution Center?

HP Solution Center is the main software program that you use to control and maintain your HP printer.

HP Solution Center is part of the full feature software and driver package that originally came with the printer (on discs). HP Solution Center acts as a central point of access for tasks such as scanning, printing, and copying, and provides links to useful HP sites.

Where do I download HP Solution Center?

HP Solution Center is part of the full feature software and driver package available for download on the HP website. The software has limited availability based on the age of your printer.

Follow these steps to install the full feature software which includes HP Solution Center.

NOTE: To make sure that HP Solution Center installs on your computer, select the Typical (Recommended) type of installation when prompted by the software installer. If you choose a Minimum type of installation, read the description of each software component carefully to avoid unintended loss of printer functionality.
  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer (if you already connected it). If the printer is connected to your network, leave it connected.

  3. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads .

  4. Use one of the available methods to identify your printer model.

    The software and driver results page displays when the printer model is identified.

  5. Check to see if your operating system is correctly identified. If your operating system is not correct, click Edit, select your operating system and version from the drop-down menus, and then click Update.

  6. Click Driver - Product Installation Software, and then click Download.

  7. If an HP Download and Install Assistant window displays, select Use HP Download and Install Assistant (Recommended) or Download only, and then click Next.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to save the driver to your computer.

  9. If you used the Download only method, open or run the driver file, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

Is HP Solution Center available for my Mac?

HP Solution Center is not available for Mac computers. The full feature software offers your printer similar features.

I cannot find HP Solution Center. How do I know if it is on my computer?

If you installed the full feature version of your printer's software, HP Solution Center was installed automatically and should be available.

Check whether HP Solution Center displays in the list of installed programs:

  • Windows 8: Right-click the Start button () or the lower left corner of the screen, click Search, and then type Solution Center in the Search box.

  • Windows 7 and Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, and then click the HP folder.

  • Windows XP: Click Start (), click All Programs, and then click the HP folder.

If you still cannot find HP Solution Center, the full feature software was not installed, your printer software was uninstalled, or a basic driver might have been downloaded and installed from the web. You need to install the software from the original installation disc or a full feature software download from the HP website (not available for printers produced prior to 2011).

How can I find HP Solution Center for a printer manufactured after 2011?

HP Printer Assistant replaced HP Solution Center for new printers in 2011. HP Printer Assistant is available when you install the full feature driver and contains similar functionality as HP Solution Center.

I upgraded or reinstalled Windows and now HP Solution Center is missing. What can I do?

You must reinstall HP Solution Center.

NOTE: If you upgraded Windows and downloaded the full feature software, some features might not be available, including HP Solution Center.

I am looking for a Solution Center to service my product, where do I go?

To service your printer, go to HP Service Center and Store Locator (in English).

Can I download HP Solution Center separately from the full feature driver package?

No. You must download the full feature software to install HP Solution Center.

How do I install HP Solution Center software?

Follow the instructions below for your computer's Operating System.

Windows 8

Use one of the following methods to install HP Solution Center.

NOTE: If you are not using the latest version of Windows 8, the information in this document might not match. You can get the latest version from the Microsoft Store.

Method one: Use the HP Printer Install Wizard (Recommended)

To save time, try using this automated tool instead of the other installation methods in this document. Click the following link to download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard.

NOTE: The HP Printer Install Wizard is not available for all printers.

The HP Printer Install Wizard automatically finds the best available print driver for your HP Printer. It is available only for Windows 8 and 7. Download and run Printer Install Wizard () a free tool from HP. When this link is clicked, HP Printer Install Wizard is downloaded using your Internet browser's download capabilities.

Method two: Download and install the software from the HP website

HP Solution Center is part of the full feature software and driver package available for download on the HP website. Follow these steps to install the software.

NOTE: HP suggests that you select the Recommended type of installation when prompted by the software installer. This ensures that HP Solution Center installs. If you choose a Custom type of installation, read the description of each software component carefully to avoid unintended loss of printer functionality.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer (if you already connected it). If the printer is connected to your network, leave it connected.

  3. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads .

  4. Use one of the available methods to identify your printer model.

  5. Check to see if your operating system is correctly identified. If your operating system is not correct, click Edit, select your operating system and version from the drop-down menus, and then click Update.

  6. Click Driver - Product Installation Software, and then click Download.

Windows 7

Use one of the following options to install HP Solution Center.

Method one: Install from the printer CD

It might be possible to add HP Solution Center from the printer CD. Use this option only if the following conditions are true:

  • You originally installed the software with the printer CD, not a download.

  • You omitted software component(s) during the installation.

  • You did not download more current software from the HP Web site after you first installed the printer.

If your situation meets these conditions, continue with the following steps to add the software from the printer CD:

  1. Turn the printer on.

  2. Insert the printer CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait a few seconds for the software installer to start.

    If the installer does not start automatically, click the Windows icon (), click Computer, and then double-click the CD drive.

    NOTE: If the User Account Control screen opens, click Allow to continue.
  3. Click the option to install more software.

  4. Select the HP Solution Center component.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

Method two: Download and install the software from the HP website

HP Solution Center is part of the full feature software and driver package available for download on the HP website. Follow these steps to install the software.

NOTE: HP suggests that you select the Recommended type of installation when prompted by the software installer. This ensures that HP Solution Center installs. Windows Vista

Use one of the following options to install HP Solution Center.

Use one of the following methods to install HP Solution Center.

Method one: Install from the printer CD
