HP ProBook 6450b Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the RTC Battery

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the RTC battery for the HP ProBook 6450b Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the RTC battery that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

RTC battery removal

  2. NOTE: The video shown depicts a different model of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to this notebook.

    Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery .

  3. Remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove the keyboard .

  4. Using a non metallic flat bladed tool, gently push the RTC battery to the right until the left edge of the RTC battery is free from its socket.

  5. Remove the RTC battery.

RTC battery replacement

  1. With the positive side of the RTC battery facing up, toe the right edge of the RTC battery into its socket and gently press down until it snaps into place.
