HP ProBook 6560b Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP ProBook 6560b Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Hard disk drive removal

NOTE: The above mentioned video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.

    CAUTION:
    • Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
    • Observe all precautions when removing and replacing components.
  2. On the bottom of the notebook, slide the battery release latch (identified with a battery icon) to the release position.

  3. Slide the battery out of the battery bay.

  4. On the bottom of the notebook, slide the bottom cover release latch (identified with a bottom cover icon) to the release position to partially eject the bottom cover.

  5. Lift the bottom cover out of the accessory bay and remove.

  6. Loosen the three captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  7. Use the black mylar tab located on the hard disk drive enclosure to slide the hard disk drive away from the hard disk drive connector on the system board.

  8. Lift the hard disk drive out of the hard disk drive bay.

  9. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.

  2. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay and align it with the hard disk drive connector on the system board.

  3. Use the black mylar tab located on the hard disk drive enclosure to slide the hard disk drive securely into the hard disk drive connector.

  4. Tighten the three captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  5. Align the edges of the bottom cover with the edges of the accessory bay and place the bottom cover into position.

  6. Slide the bottom cover toward the rear of the notebook until it is properly seated and the bottom cover release latch clicks.

  7. Slide the bottom cover release latch to the locked position to secure the bottom cover in the accessory bay.

  8. Slide the battery into the battery bay until it is properly seated and the battery release latch clicks.

  9. Slide the battery release latch to the locked position to secure the battery in the battery bay.

    CAUTION: Any red visible under the battery release latch indicates that the battery is not securely locked in the battery bay. This may allow the battery to slide out inadvertently and cause damage to the battery and anything it impacts.
