HP Compaq 6200 Pro Small Form Factor PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard drive for the HP Compaq 6200 Pro Small Form Factor PC.

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

NOTE: The chassis and internal components of this computer are similar to the HP Compaq 6000 Pro Small Form Factor (SFF) Business PC and the HP Z210 Small Form Factor (SFF) Workstation. Removal and replacement procedures are the same. The above mentioned video link shows removal and replacement procedures for HP Z210 SFF Workstation.

Hard drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Pull up and hold the access panel release latch.

  3. Rotate the panel up and lift it away from the chassis.

  4. Rotate the drive cage to the up position.

  5. Rotate the power supply to the up position.

  6. Disconnect the data and power cables from the back of the drive.

  7. While pressing on the drive release latch, slide the drive back until it stops.

  8. Lift the drive up and out of the drive bay.

NOTE: If the replacement drive does not include guide screws, remove and reuse the screws from this drive.

Hard drive replacement

  1. Align guide screws on the drive with the J-slots in the drive bay and push the drive down into the drive bay.

  2. Slide the drive forward until it locks into place.

  3. Connect the power and data cables to the drive.

  4. Rotate the power supply to the down position.

  5. Rotate the drive cage to the down position.

  6. Slide the lip on the front end of the access panel under the lip on the front chassis guide rail.

  7. Lower the back end of the panel until it contacts the chassis.

  8. Press down on the access panel until it locks into place.
