HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Series Printers (N911) - How to Send a Fax

Introduction

This document explains the various methods that you can use to send a fax. To go directly to the instructions for a specific fax method, click the method from the list under How to send a fax.

Before you start

To make sure that you can send a fax from the product, check the fax setup.

Run a fax test

  1. On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow ( )
  2. Touch Setup ( ).

  3. Touch Tools , and then touch Run Fax Test . The fax diagnostic test page prints.

  • If the product detects no issues with the fax setup , continue with the next step.

  • If the product finds any issues with the fax setup , follow the instructions on the fax setup test page to resolve the issue.

Adjust the fax volume

Complete the following steps to set the fax volume so that you can hear outbound faxes, or mute the volume.

  1. On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow ( )
  2. Touch Setup ( ).

  3. Touch Fax Setup .

  4. Touch the Down Arrow ( ), and then touch Basic Fax Setup .

  5. Touch Fax Sound Volume , and then touch OK .

  6. Touch Soft , Loud , or Off , depending on your preference.

How to send a fax

You can use the product control panel to send a black and white or color fax.

Click the plus sign ( ) for more information.

Send a multipage fax

You can send a color fax from your product. If the recipient's fax does not support color faxing, the fax prints in black and white instead of color. A message displays on the control panel stating that the fax could not be sent in color.

  1. Load all the originals in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), with the printed side facing up. Slide the originals into the ADF until a message displays on the control panel and a beep sound indicates that the product detects the original.

  2. Slide the paper width guides toward the edges of the original until they rest against the sides of the paper. Original loaded displays on the control panel.

  3. On the product control panel, touch Fax ( ).

  4. Touch the recipient’s fax number on the number pad.

  5. Touch Black or touch Color . The product begins the fax process.

Send a single page or photo fax

You can send a color fax from your product. If the recipient's fax does not support color faxing, the fax prints in black and white instead of color. A message displays on the control panel stating that the fax could not be sent in color.

  1. Lift the scanner lid, and then place a single page or photo face down on the scanner glass.

    NOTE: The engraved diagram on the lower right corner of the scanner glass shows you exactly where to place the document.

  2. Lower the scanner lid.

  3. On the product control panel, touch Fax ( ).

  4. Type the recipient’s fax number on the numbered keypad.

  5. Touch Color or touch Black .

  6. Touch Fax from the scanner glass . The product begins the fax process.

Schedule a fax to be sent later

You can schedule a black and white fax to be sent within the next 24 hours. The product automatically sends your fax at the specified time. You can only schedule one fax to be sent at a time, but you can continue to send faxes normally after you schedule one fax.

NOTE: You can only schedule a fax to be sent later using the ADF.
  1. Load all the pages of the original in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), with the printed side facing up. Slide the original into the ADF until a message displays on the control panel or a beep sounds that indicates that the product detects the original.

  3. On the product control panel, touch Fax ( ).

  4. Type the recipient’s fax number using the numeric keypad.

  5. Touch Fax Methods , and then touch Send Fax Later .

  6. Type in the time you want the product to send the fax, and then touch Done .

  7. Touch Start Fax , and then touch Black .

    The product scans the original, and then the scheduled fax icon displays on the control panel. The product sends the fax at the scheduled time.

Send a fax to multiple recipients using broadcast faxing

Follow these steps to fax the document to multiple recipients using broadcast faxing.

NOTE: You can only broadcast fax using the Automatic Document Feeder.
  1. Load all the pages of the original in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), with the printed side facing up. Slide the original into the ADF until a message displays on the control panel or a beep sounds that indicates that the product detects the original.

  2. Slide the paper width guides toward the edges of the original until they rest against the sides of the paper.

  3. On the product control panel, touch Fax ( ).

  4. Touch Fax Methods , and then touch Broadcast Fax .

  5. Using the numeric keypad, type the first fax number you would like to send your fax to, and then touch Done .

  6. Touch Add Numbers to add another recipient fax number.

    NOTE: Repeat this step for each fax number you want to send the document to.
  7. Touch Start Fax , and then touch Broadcast Fax . The product scans the original, and then sends the fax at the scheduled time.

Send a fax to multiple recipients using group speed dial

You can send a fax to multiple recipients by grouping individual speed dial entries into group speed dial entries. The product can send only black and white faxes using the group speed dial.

Step one: Set up the Group Speed Dial

  1. On the product control panel, touch Fax ( ).

  2. Touch the Speed Dial button.

  3. Touch Group Speed Dial , and then touch Setup . The Group Dial menu displays.

  4. Touch an unassigned group speed dial number, for example [04] [Add] . A list of speed dial names/numbers that you have already set up on the product displays.

  5. Touch the speed dial names/numbers that you want to include in this group speed dial, and then touch OK .

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter a name for the group speed dial, and then touch Done . A confirmation window displays.

  7. Touch OK , and then touch the Home icon ( ) to return the main menu.

Step two: Fax the original to the speed dial group

  1. Load the original into the product:

    • Single page or photo original: Lift the scanner lid, place the single page or photo face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.

      NOTE: The engraved diagram next to the scanner glass shows exactly where to place the document, usually on the right or left front corner.

  2. On the product control panel, touch Fax ( ).

  3. Touch the speed dial entry ( ), touch the group name, and then touch Start Fax .

    The product scans the original into memory, and then dials the first phone number in the group speed dial list. When the recipient fax answers, the product sends the fax, and then it dials the next number in the group speed dial list.

    If a number returns a busy signal or does not answer, the product uses the Busy Redial or No Answer Redial settings. If the product cannot connect after using the Busy Redial or No Answer Redial settings, it dials the next number on the group speed dial list, and then an error report prints.
