Original Document Release.
IMPORTANT: The SATA Hard Drive firmware update listed below is considered a critical fix and is required to prevent certain SATA Hard Drive models from experiencing a potential data transfer issue. HP strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in sub-optimal server performance or data corruption or loss. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

In rare circumstances, the SATA Hard Drives listed in the Scope section below may experience a potential data transfer error under some media error handling conditions when attached to a Smart Array P212, P410, P410i, P411, or P812 Controller with Firmware Version 5.08 (or earlier) or attached to a Smart Array P711m or P712m Controller with Firmware Version 4.02 (or earlier).

IMPORTANT: SAS Hard Drives are NOT affected by this issue. In addition, the potential data transfer error occurs as a result of the inability to READ a block due to media damage, contamination, mechanical failure, etc. The error is NOT caused by writing improper data.
