HP Compaq dc7900 Desktop PC series - Update the BIOS Without Accessing the Operating System

Information

The following technique will allow the BIOS to be updated before starting the OS. An empty USB drive or CD-RW is required to perform this procedure.

Details

Using a USB drive:

  1. Download the last BIOS version from the web site.

    Click here to access the support and drivers page at HP.com .

  2. Execute the BIOS file (it should be spxxxx.exe). The files will extract to: C:\swsetup\spxxxxx

  3. Copy the .bin file onto the USB drive.

  4. Connect the USB drive to the PC that needs the BIOS update and turn on the PC.

  5. Press F10 to go into the BIOS menu and select File.

  6. Select Flash System ROM.

  7. Select the USB device.

  8. Select the .bin file and follow the onscreen instructions.

Using a CD:

  1. Download the last BIOS version from the web site.

    Click here to access the support and drivers page at HP.com .

  2. Execute the BIOS file (it should be spxxxx.exe). The files will extract to: C:\swsetup\spxxxxx

  3. Burn the .iso file onto a CD.

  4. Put the CD into the optical drive of the PC that needs the BIOS update and turn on the PC.

  5. Press F10 to go into the BIOS menu and select File.

  6. Select Flash System ROM.

  7. Select the CD drive .

  8. Select the .iso file and follow the onscreen instructions.
