DESCRIPTION

On an HP ProLiant SL335s G7 server, either of the following Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Virtual Power Button features may not function correctly via the iLO 3 web interface:

  • The Virtual Power Button may not function remotely via the iLO 3 webpage if the system is in a non-responsive (hung) state.

OR

  • A Momentary Power Button function may not be able to be performed remotely via the iLO 3 webpage if the Power Button option is set to Disabled in the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). By default, the Power Button is enabled in RBSU.

SCOPE

Any HP ProLiant SL335s G7 server with Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) and a System Programmable Logic Device Version earlier than VA_0D.

RESOLUTION

To ensure that the Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Virtual Power Button features function correctly, upgrade the System Programmable Logic Device to Version VA_0D, which is available for download as follows:

  • Online Flash Component for Linux - System Programmable Logic Device (HP ProLiant SE1135s/SE2135s/SE2155s/SE2235E/SE4235E/SL335s G7) - Smart Component CP016493.scexe
  • Online Flash Component for Windows - System Programmable Logic Device (HP ProLiant SE1135s/SE2135s/SE2155s/SE2235E/SE4235E/SL335s G7) - Smart Component cp016492.exe

IMPORTANT: These components are not suitable for remote and/or automated deployment. You must have physical access to the server.

After flashing the System Programmable Logic Device, perform a power-cycle for the changes to take effect. Unplug all power cables and wait 30 seconds before plugging them back in. Pressing the power button is not sufficient.

The appropriate device driver must be installed and running before using the flash components. On Windows, install the HP ProLiant iLO 3 Management Controller Driver Package. On Linux, install the HP ProLiant Channel Interface Device Driver for iLO. If the driver is not running, the following error message will be displayed:

The software is not supported for installation on this system. You must install the iLO Channel Interface driver to use this component.
