HP Deskjet 2510 and Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515 All-in-One Printer Series - How to Scan: From the Control Panel

Introduction

This document explains how to scan a picture or a document using the control panel on your HP product.

Before scanning to a computer, make sure your computer is on, the product software is installed, and the HP printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable.

Step one: Place the item on the scanner glass

Follow these steps to place the item you are scanning on the scanner glass.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not already on.

  2. Lift the lid on the product.

  3. Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides on the right-front corner of the scanner glass.

  4. Close the lid.

Step two: Scan from the control panel

On the product control panel, press the scan icon () next to Scan. The product scans your document and saves it to the default location on the computer.

NOTE: The default scan file format for your product is JPEG. To change the default setting, click "How do I change the default scan settings?" section.

How do I change the default scan settings?

Follow these steps to open the HP Printer Assistant and change the scan settings.

Click the plus sign ( ) next to your operating system for more information.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn the product on.

  2. Open the HP Printer Assistant by following one of these methods.

    • Windows XP

      Click Start, click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ().

    • Windows Vista

      Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    • Windows 7

      Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).

    NOTE: You can also double-click the product icon () on your desktop.
  3. Under the section Print & Scan, click Scan a document or photo. Select one of the on-screen options that corresponds to the document or picture you are scanning.

  4. Select one of the on-screen options that corresponds to the document or picture you are scanning.

    NOTE: These options are shortcuts included with the HP software. To create your own custom settings at any time click Create New Shortcut.
    Photo to file (JPEG)
    Use this setting to scan an object and then save it as a JPEG image.
    Photo to email (JPEG)
    Use this setting to scan an object and then email the scan in Microsoft Outlook or similar email software.
    NOTE: You can only email a scanned object if you use Microsoft Outlook (or another software program installed in Windows) to send and receive your email. The Photo to email feature does not work with email programs such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail, unless you can send and receive emails from your account using Microsoft Outlook or a similar program.

    If your email is not set up to accept files directly from a scanner, save the scan to a file on your computer, and then attach the file to an email.

    Document to file (PDF)
    Use this setting to scan an object and then save it as a PDF file.
    Document to email (PDF)
    Use this setting to scan an object and then email the scan in Microsoft Outlook or similar email software.
    NOTE: You can only email a scanned object if you use Microsoft Outlook (or another software program installed in Windows) to send and receive your email. The Document to email feature does not work with email programs such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail, unless you can send and receive emails from your account using Microsoft Outlook or a similar program.

    If your email is not set up to accept files directly from a scanner, save the scan to a file on your computer, and then attach the file to an email.

    Photo to TIF
    Use this setting to scan an object and then save it as a TIF image.
    Document to TIF
    Use this setting to scan a document and then save it as a TIF file.
    NOTE: Your product supports scanning in the following file formats: JPEG, PDF, PNG, TIFF, and BITMAP.
  5. Click Scan. The product scans the document or image, and then saves it to the destination specified in the settings.
