Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hot-plug SAS hard drive for the HP ProLiant DL360e Gen8 Server.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hot-plug SAS hard drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

The use of the "Original" spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If the unit contains a part that is labeled with the "Modified" spare number, the "Modified" spare part must be ordered as the replacement part. If the unit contains a part that is labeled with the "Original" spare number, please order the "Original" spare number as the replacement part. In this case, either the "Original" or the "Modified" spare number may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Hot-plug SAS hard drive removal instructions

CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to the product or loss of data.
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all bays are populated with either a component or a blank.

Press the hot plug button to release the handle.
2
Pull the handle back and use it to slide the hard drive out of the hard drive bay.
3
If removing a hard drive blank, pinch the release tabs together and slide the hard drive blank out of the hard drive bay.
NOTE: Procedures for LFF, large form factor drives are essentially the same.

Hot-plug SAS hard drive replacement instructions

Press the ejector button to release the handle.
2
With the hard drive handle extended, insert the drive into the drive bay.
3
Close the drive handle to lock the hard drive into place.
4
If replacing a hard drive blank, slide the blank into the hard drive bay until it clicks into place.
